On the Reading Table This Last Week of January

Extreme Grandparenting by Tim Kimmel  A birthday gift from an inspiring friend, this validates my own passion for grand-parenting yet takes me to task for my tendency to hoard my own particular comforts.  Some parents may want their own parents to receive this as an "anonymous" gift -- in case you know of a semi-reluctant-but-open-minded grandparent who just needs a nudge toward becoming more involved in their role.

The School of Essential Ingredients   by Erica Bauermeister  Wonderfully evocative food aromas and visuals called forth by this author, if a few too many similes... but this would be a good gift for anyone remotely considering a cooking class and the hardback is only $6.32 right now @Amazon.

Remarkable Creatures: A Novel by Tracy Chevalier  Can't wait to ready this one, as her Girl with a Pearl Earring is one of my favorite works of historical fiction.

Thunderstruck by Erik Larson  Had high hopes for this one, as Larson's The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed Americawas a wonderful weave of research and story, but in this new book we get a little too much of the details of Marconi's development of wireless technology and too little of the mystery of Hawley Crippen's "perfect" crime.

  1. I really enjoyed Remarkable Creatures!

I'd love to share a grandmother book with you: Sharon Lovejoy's Toad Cottages and Shooting Stars. I think you would enjoy it! I read it last year and am rereading it this year--so many good ideas.

Thanks for stopping by my blog and taking the time to leave a comment!
