This Mellow "Week After"

The Blue Zones: Lessons for Living Longer From the People Who've Lived the LongestConsider a new way to tackle your resolutions for 2011? Try writing a personal mission statement -- start with the vision of where you want to go with your life at this point in time -- and then tweak your daily behaviors to work toward that vision.

The concept of a personal mission statement is just one of many specific tips to guide us all toward longevity (and more enriching our lives, no matter what our age) provided by Dan Buettner in his book The Blue Zones: Lessons for Living Longer From the People Who've Lived the Longest (paperback).  Learn about the power of family & friends, humor, habits -- and having a sense of purpose.  The book seems mis-named, in that we think of feeling blue as feeling badly, but Dan Buettner is referring to the Blue Zones of the world where significant numbers of people tend to live longer... (I'm interested, too, in ordering Buttner's hardback Thrive: Finding Happiness the Blue Zones Way.)

My own personal mission statement is in the works... I'll share it with you in a day or two.  Send me yours and I'll publish a selection of statements in an upcoming post.
Enjoy this mellow week-between-the holidays!
